Who is the jewelry designer Mara N Machado?
Mara N. Machado:
Biography and Creative Journey
Mara N. Machado was born in Lages, Santa Catarina, daughter of engineer Ornélio Machado and Mara Regina Machado. From childhood, her family encouraged her to explore drawing and painting, and at the age of 9, in Rio de Janeiro, she found her greatest aesthetic inspiration in the works of Salvador Dalí.
Education and Professional Background
Currently a public servant, Mara balances her administrative career with a solid academic and technical foundation. Her journey includes studies in Interior Ornamentation and Art History in Porto Alegre, as well as attending the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) in Social Anthropology, Law, and Civil Engineering. As a student leader, she distinguished herself by advocating for indigenous causes, participating in symposiums on the demarcation of Raposa Serra do Sol.
Jewelry Design and Gemology
In 2000, in Brasília, she specialized in jewelry design at the Museum of Gems (a partnership between UnB/SEBRAE) with artist Joana Campelo. Her pursuit of technical improvement led her to study Gemology, lapidary, and jewelry making with masters such as Júnior Olivieri and Fernando Mundim, in addition to undertaking wax modeling training at Mário Ferreira's renowned atelier in Lisbon.
Plastic Arts: The "Continuity" Collection
After a long period in Europe, Mara settled in Florianópolis in 2011. In 2017, following the loss of her father, she found in therapy the vital impulse to resume painting. What was once a hobby solidified into her main expression under the title Continuity — the name given to her entire body of canvases. Her paintings use acrylic and oil techniques, exploring the balance between geometric forms and the continuity of life experiences.
Literary Career
In 2024, Mara expanded her creative universe into literature, publishing two remarkable works with Editora Insular and on Amazon:
Os Últimos Passos Invencíveis (The Last Invincible Steps)
Os Gatos Samel e o seu Amigo Puhyel (Samel the Cats and their Friend Puhyel)
